The Newtown Lions Club Foundation is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization which is partnering with other organizations to help the Survivors of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.  The Newtown Lions want to help our community heal and as such is providing aid for counseling services to the families and first responders of these horrific events through the support of the Connecticut Counseling Association.

If your child attended Sandy Hook at the time of the tragedy or,  if you were a staff member or first responder at the time of the tragedy, you may be eligible for financial assistance for your therapy.  Please contact the Newtown Recovery and Resiliency Team Office at 203.270-4612, Extension 102. All counseling reimbursement requests will be handled in confidence.

The Newtown Lions Club Foundation Sandy Hook Elementary Fund in partnership with the Collaborative Recovery Fund will attempt to help individuals:
Pay the counseling cost not covered by insurance (copays, etc.) after insurance submission
  • Pay for counseling costs for individuals that do not have insurance coverage
  • Help families find licensed mental health professionals in their area
There were approximately 600 children and staff in Sandy Hook Elementary School at the time of the shooting and among those were 12 surviving children in classrooms that witnessed these horrific events. Additionally there were hundreds of first responders including police, fire, and volunteers, that were deeply effected the morning of the shooting. It is the children, staff, and families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School population as well as the first responders and their families, that are most in need of the services the Newtown Lions Club Foundation is assisting with.

The Newtown Lions Club Foundation has dispersed funds for counseling to approximately 250 individuals in the 2013 after the tragedy. The outlay in February of 2014 was over $30,000 and over $350,000 to date. At this rate we estimate that our annual needs will be over $300,000 a year. It is predicted that we may need to provide this assistance for a period of up to ten years. Our monetary goal is $3,000,000 over ten years.  Given the extreme demand for these services the Newtown Lions Club Foundation has joined forces with the Collaborative Recovery Fund in an effort to provide additional resources to the community. Please help us help those who are in greatest need by making your tax deductible donation at the donate button above or by check to the Newtown Lions Club Foundation, P.O. Box 218, Newtown, Ct. 06470. Thank you for your help.
