Chalk the Walk
A Sidewalk Art Contest
At the Newtown Arts Festival
on the Fairfield Hills Campus
September 27 & 28
There will be $100 prizes in three categories:
Youth (12-17), Adults (18 and up),
and People's Choice

Here's how it works:
Your $10 Registration buys you a square in which you can create your artwork. You will be provided Chalk for your original creation. Your Artwork will be judged on Sunday for the category that you are registered in. Lions Volunteers will be available onsite to answer any questions you may have during the event. (see rules below)

A separate area will be provided for children under age 12
that might want to have fun drawing and not be judged.
The Rules
• Registration fee is
$10 per person
• Sign in will begin at 11 AM on Saturday.
Each artist will be assigned a numbered sidewalk square
• Artists may work on their submissions from
11 AM - 5 PM on Saturday, and from 11 AM- 3 PM on Sunday
• We will have basic sidewalk chalk available
for use, or artists can bring their own materials - permitted materials
include chalk or chalk pastels only. No paint or non-washable materials
may be used. Hairspray can be used as a fixative but no other fixatives
are allowed.
• Remember that this work can be hard on the
knees. We will provide some cushions for your use, but you may wish to
wear knee pads. If you intend on blending your chalks on the sidewalk,
you may wish to bring rags or gloves to protect your fingers.
• Entries will be judged by a panel of 3 local
artists. Judging will occur on Sunday afternoon. In the event that rain
is forecast for Sunday, photographs will be taken of each submission for
later judging.
