The Major Causes of the Newtown Lions Club Foundation and Lions Clubs International
Here's how your kind participation helps Lions work in our Community

Diabetes Environment Childhood Cancer Vision Hunger
Part of the Fund Raising activities of the Newtown Lions Club goes to support of Diabetes Camps, and Juvenile Diabetes Research. The Club is developing a Diabetes Screening Program to benefit and educate the general public about this debilitating disease The Newtown Lions Club has supported our local Earth Day effort through participation in cleaning up our town during Loose the Litter Day. Our club also maintains the trails at the Orchard Hill nature preserve in Town for all to explore and enjoy. The Club's Charities Committee also allocates significant funding toward disasters that occur in our Country like Forest Fires and devastating Storms in communities both locally and throughout the USA. Through fund raising activities that our club operates the Newtown Lions Club is able to to make significant contributions toward Childhood Cancer research and locally Hope for Main Street a program to support the American Cancer Society. Additionally the Newtown Lions support Healing the Children. Another major Service Program that the club funds and operates is our local Eye Screening Program where thousands of School Children are screened annually for Vision Health. This is all in support of our ongoing involvement in the major KidSight initiative that Lions International sponsors. We also help to fund Lions Low Vision Centers which provide eyesight aids to those in need and local Vision and Hearing are supported through the Newtown Social Services. There are multiple programs for the Blind supported by our club like Fidelco, Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Connecticut Lions Eye Research (CLERF), and the Connecticut Radio Information Service (CRIS) The Newtown Lions Club supports many programs related to Hunger including Soup Kitchens and Food Banks like Dorothy Day House, Daily Bread, Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Faith Food Pantry, Hospitality House, Golden Opportunities, Meals on Wheels.

The Newtown Lions Club supports many other needs through other programs like HomeFront supporting need based families with home repair. The Lions Club also makes significant contributions to Fuel Banks in town helping our local neighbors stay warm during the Winter months. The Club donates to the Salvation Army and helps to staff the annual Bell Ringing events and we support Families United in Newtown (F.U.N.) an Autism support group. The Club provides support for mental health and drug rehabilitation programs through the Resiliency Center and the Parent Connection. The club recently spearheaded an upgrade to the Dickinson Park Playground providing inclusive accessebility apparatus for handicapped Children for the first time.

The support structure for our community that the Newtown Lions Club provides is vast. So when you see us selling Duck Race or Mustang Tickets your kind participation in these fund raisers makes you part of this great effort and provides wonderful rewards for all involved,
